Packet Patch

Setup

Getting Packet Patch into your classroom

All you need is an up-to-date browser and this address. Nothing to install, no accounts.

packetpatch.wunderkammer-apps.de/app

ALaptop or PC with a projector

Also works for a whiteboard with a projector.

  1. Get it on the screenConnect your laptop. On Windows, press Windows + P and choose “Duplicate.”
  2. Open the addressType the address above into Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.
  3. Go full screenPress F11 to fill the screen. Press F11 again to exit.
Install it like an app
  • Chrome: Click “Install” in the address bar – or menu ⋮ → “Cast, save, and share” → “Install page as app…”.
  • Edge: Click the app icon in the address bar → “Install.”
  • Firefox (Windows): Since version 143, the button on the right of the address bar adds the page to your taskbar.

After that, Packet Patch opens like a program, without the address bar.

Controls: mouse, whiteboard pen, or presenter remote. The weekly box and the games respond to the arrow keys, the space bar, and Page Up/Page Down – the keys most presenter remotes send.

BInteractive display

Panels with built-in Android, such as Promethean, SMART, Clevertouch, or ViewSonic.

  1. Open the browserTap the browser on the panel. Depending on the model, it’s Chrome, Chromium, or Firefox.
  2. Type the addressEnter the address above. It’s also printed big on the QR code sheet.
  3. Bookmark itTap the star in the address bar, and tomorrow Packet Patch is one tap away.
Good to know about panels
  • Newer Google-certified panels (EDLA) come with Chrome and the Play Store – for example SMART Board RX, ViewSonic IFP52-2, or Promethean ActivPanel LE.
  • On older Clevertouch panels without that certification, Clevertouch recommends Firefox or Opera from the CleverStore.
  • The Promethean ActivPanel 10 has no built-in Android. It runs on a plug-in computer module – then follow A or D.
  • Many panels clean up: on a SMART Board with iQ, “Clean Up” clears history, cache, and cookies, and it can run on a schedule. Guest profiles keep nothing after you sign out. Your class goes with it – see Don’t lose your tree.

Controls: tap right on the panel. Sound comes from the panel’s speakers.

CiPad with Apple TV

The iPad stays in your hand, and AirPlay sends the picture to the projector or TV.

  1. Mirror the screeniPad and Apple TV on the same Wi-Fi. Open Control Center → “Screen Mirroring” → choose the Apple TV.
  2. Open the addressType the address into Safari – or scan the QR code on the sheet with the camera.
  3. Add to Home ScreenShare button (square with an arrow) → “Add to Home Screen.” From now on, open Packet Patch from that icon.
Why the Home Screen?

Safari may delete a website’s data after seven days without a visit – after a break, your class would be gone. According to the WebKit team, that isn’t expected for web apps opened from the Home Screen. Starting with iPadOS 26, the page opens from the Home Screen as its own web app.

On a Shared iPad, a temporary session deletes everything when you sign out. Then only your class key helps.

Controls: tap on the iPad, and everyone sees it up front. Sound plays through the Apple TV too.

DChromebook

With a projector, a display, or as the computer module inside a display.

  1. Get it on the screenConnect the Chromebook with HDMI or USB-C.
  2. Open the addressType the address above into Chrome.
  3. Install it as an appClick “Install” in the address bar – or menu ⋮ → “Cast, save, and share” → “Install page as app…”.
On school-managed Chromebooks

A managed guest session or ephemeral mode deletes all data on the device when you sign out. Please write down your class key.

Controls: touchpad, mouse, or presenter remote – just like A.

Don’t lose your tree

The tree and the album live only in the device’s browser. Some school devices clear browser data when you sign out, clean up, or close the browser. So:

  1. Write down the class keyThe teacher menu shows a class key (25 characters) for each class. It brings the tree and album back on any device. Jot it on the sheet and keep it in your plan book.
  2. Back up now and then“Back up all classes” in the teacher menu saves a file with everything, including class records. Keep it somewhere safe, like a USB drive or your school’s cloud storage. Before summer break is a good time.
  3. Or turn on the short codeFor devices that clean up all the time: in the teacher menu, you can turn on a short code for each class (8 characters, for example K7QM-2XRA). The app then saves the class key on our server in the EU after every change – counters only, no names. On an erased device, just choose “Get class with short code” on the start screen. Needs internet; details in the privacy policy.
  4. Open it once with internetAfter the first visit, the app works offline. If the device was cleaned up, the next start needs internet for a moment.

Sound and reading aloud

Packet Patch reads tasks and letters aloud with the browser’s voice. For the whole class to hear, play the sound through the projector’s or display’s speakers. You can turn reading aloud off for each class in the teacher menu.
